Why were we created with intellect, mind and heart?

--

Why were we created with intellect, mind and heart?

God has created man with intellect, mind and heart.(By heart I don’t refer to the physical heart, but to the faculty of love.)

Intellect is meant to reason, think and know,

mind to store what we have known

and

heart to love what we have known.

Why should we know?

Why should we store in our mind what we have known?

Why should we love what we have known?

Very easy, but difficult questions.

Easy to ask, but difficult to answer.

Anyhow let us try.

Why should we know?

When we were born we did not know anything.

Our parents made us know things one by one.

We began to know many things in course of time.

Our parents were our first teachers.

When they taught us to know things we never asked ourselves, “Why should we know?

But we began to like and love things that came under our knowledge.

First we began to love our parents and other family members.

We began to like things like our food, toys, our bed etc.

We never bothered to know why we liked and loved things and persons who came across us.

Our intellect reacted with the things and persons around us and gathered knowledge about them and stored the knowledge gained in our mind to remember it later.

The knowledge gained led us to ‘likes and dislikes’ automatically without our effort.

Likes resulted in love and dislikes in hatred.

Now one thing is clear.

Knowledge led us to ‘love or hatred’.

No knowledge, neither love nor hatred.

Now we can answer the question, “Why should we know?”

We should know to love what is known.

In fact to love is our nature

We cannot but love a thing when we find it worthy of our love.

To know is our thirst by nature.

When we see a thing we automatically feel the thirst to know about it.

Now comes another question, “Why did God create us with intellect, mind and heart?

Is it simply to know and love the things and persons around us?

If it is so, the immortality of our soul has no meaning.

Just knowing and loving temporal things which will cease to exist one day will be of no use to an immortal soul which will exist eternally.

Only knowing and loving things and persons of eternal value will be of use to an immortal soul.

Things of this world will end one day.

God is the only eternal being.

Knowing and loving God alone will be of eternal use to our souls.

Now we can answer our question.

God created us with intellect, mind and heart to know Him, to remember Him and to love Him.

Love will automatically flower forth into service.

Any knowledge that does not help us to know, love and serve God is vain.

Heaping up any amount of worldly knowledge in the mind without God in it is vain.

An illiterate man who loves and serves God with the little knowledge he has is far better than a man who has gained innumerable doctorates in innumerable sciences, but with no love for God.

Our only duty in this world is to love and serve God.

Knowledge is gained, but love comes automatically.

Let us know, love and serve God.
