Why do we call Mother Mary our Queen?

Jesus, Our Lord, is our King.

Mary is His Mother.

Mother of a king is a queen.

As Mary is the Mother of our King, she is our Queen.

During Annunciation Angel Gabriel told Mary,  "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High

and the Lord God will give unto him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:31-33)

Gabriel referred to the Davidic Kingship of Jesus when he said, "God will give unto him the throne of his father David."

During visitation, Mary's cousin Elizabeth greeted her,   "And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 1:43)

In the Old Testament Davidic kings were addressed as 'My Lord'.  

Elizabeth recognized Jesus as  a king when she referred to Him as  'my Lord'.

So she was actually calling Mary the mother of the new Davidic king,Jesus.

When she exclaimed,  "And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”,

she seemed to convey a sense of unworthiness in the presence of Mary precisely because she is the Mother of the Davidic king.

Why would she be so surprised to be visited by the king’s mother? 

Because   Mary was the new Queen Mother and Elizabeth was an ordinary citizen.

She seemed to have been surprised at the Queen visiting her.

Through Elizabeth's words,     St.Luke  introduced Mary as our Queen, the Queen of the Church.

From all this, we can be confident that Mary really is the Queen of the Church.

She is the  Queen of her Son’s kingdom.

We belong to the Kingdom of Jesus.

so Mary really is our Queen, and she deserves all the honour we give her.

Jesus asked us to call His Father our Father.

So Jesus is our Brother.

He is Mary's Son.

So we too are the children of the Queen of the Church!

How happy should we be when we know that we belong to a Royal family!
