How ought we to prepare ourselves to welcome the Lord and to celebrate His birth in a cave in Bethlehem ?

Christmas is fast approaching, with only a few weeks ahead.

Preparations for the approaching  Christmas have already begun.

How are we preparing?

By

Cleaning our houses, whitewashing or painting them if necessary,

Decorating them internally and externally,

Hanging plastic made colourful and lighted stars,

Getting ready things necessary to build an updated Crib for Baby Jesus to be born in,

Getting ready for luxurious and sumptuous Christmas meals,

Giving advance for Christmas cakes and sweets,

Sending Christmas greetings to our dear ones,

ana above all,

Purchasing costly new Christmas dress for all the family members.

Thousands or lacs of rupees,depending upon the social status of the  person, are spent for the celebration of the feast.

All the things noted above are the external preparations done for  any function.

Even for a marriage function we do the above things.

There is nothing Christian in them except that they are done before Christmas.

They must be Christianized by our internal preparation, which must be purely Christian.

What is meant by 'purely Christian'?

The preparations must be based on pure Christian values.

What is valued as Christ Himself valued is Christian value.

Jesus is the Creator of the world we live in.

We were created not to live in this world permanently.

We were created for the next world which will be our permanent abode.

This world, wherein we live, is only a means to be used for the attainment of the next world.

It is only a means to an end.  

Worldly minded people consider this world as an end in itself, without caring for the next world; they are attached to this world.

Detachment to this world is a Christian value.

'Blessed are the poor in spirit', Jesus has said.

Jesus has set an example by His life to be followed by us, His followers.

Christmas in truth is feast of a poor baby.

The richest God (Nobody can be richer than God as He is the owner of the whole universe) becomes poorest of the poor, not by disowning His creation, but by His poverty of spirit, to teach us how we should be.

If He has desired He could have been born of a rich virgin in a magnificent palace.

But He chose to born of a poor virgin,  in a cave, a residence of cattle.

He chose a poor manger to be His bed.

We must keep this fact in our mind when we prepare for the Christmas celebrations.

Luxury is not in keeping with the Christian value of any celebration in the Holy Name of Jesus.

We cannot meditate on poor Jesus, ourselves living in luxury.

So our Christmas celebrations must be simple,  not luxurious,

The first message about christ's birth was given to poor shepherds.

This shows christ's love for the poor.

Jesus wants us to share what we have  with the poor and the needy.

We must share the money spent on dress, food and our decorations with the poor. 

Our Christmas celebrations must be based on Jesus' commandment that we must love God and our neighbours.

Our love for our  neighbours must express itself in our acts of love and kindness.

Without our acts of love and kindness our Christmas celebrations cannot be pleasing to Jesus.

We must make use of Christmas as an opportunity to show our love for our neighbours, not to make a show of our ability to spend.

Internal spiritual preparation is more important than external material preparation.

We must make our heart fit to receive Baby Jesus by cleaning it by our act contrition and confession.

Celebrating Christmas without spiritual preparation is a waste of time and energy.

In short, our Christmas celebrations must be marked by

Spiritual purity,

Simplicity,

Love for God

and

Love for our neighbours.

Humility is the queen of virtues and gratitude is her twin sister.

Both the virtues always go together.

One who is humble accepts that whatever good he has is not his, but God's gift to him.

So he feels thankful to God.

“It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father most holy.”

These prayerful words are from the Eucharistic prayer of the Holy  Mass.

It always right and just to be thankful to God.

It is our duty too.

Lucifer, once a magnificent angel of light, fell from heaven due to his pride.

Rebellion and ingratitude are cousins of pride.

For what should we be grateful?

For whatever good we have and for whatever happens to us.

We must be thankful to God in all situations.

"Give thanks upon all occasions; this is what God expects of you all in Christ Jesus."(1Thessalonians5:18)

Whatever is not against God is good.

None of the created things is against God.

We should not compare what we have with what  others have.

We should be grateful for what  we have.

Are we rich?  Let us thank God.

Are we poor? Let us thank God.

Neither richness nor poorness should decide our gratitude. 

It is God's Providence for us that should make us  grateful to Him.

We should be thankful for whatever happens to us, because whatever happens happens according to the will of God.

The worst thing, according to the world, is death.

But spiritually it is the best thing as it is the only gateway to Heaven.

Can there a better thing than this best thing?

We must always keep in mind that it was by His death that Jesus is giving us salvation.

Just as we thank God before and after meals, we must be thankful at the time of starvation also.

We must  accept success and failure with equal mental disposition,

which means,

we must accept both success and failure with equal thankfulness.

Apostle Paul reminds us to “Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

I know a boy who could not pass even his E. S. L. C. (viii th.std) exam in spite of his hard work  and hence could not continue his studies further.

But he accepted it as a blessing from God.

In later years he proved to be a successful farmer.

When we give thanks, we express  our confidence in God. 

When we give thanks, we realize that God is always  with us.

When we give thanks, we accept the will  God to be done in us.

Gratitude is a powerful weapon against evil spirits.

It is easy for grateful people to overcome temptations.

Because one who is grateful to God always bears Him in his heart and His presence in him will easily overcome all the temptations.

So let us be thankful to God because He is good and can do only good.

These Sacramentine Sisters of Don Orione are offering something very particular for the salvation of the world: their blindness.

They are a community of blind nuns, consecrated to perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

They  wear a distinctive white habit, a red scapular, and a white Host embroidered on the chest.

They are a branch of the Little   Missionary Sisters of Charity.(LMSC)

Their  mission is to offer  God their privation of sight for those who do not know the truth yet, so that they may come to God, the light of the world.

In addition they seek to support with Eucharistic Adoration and sacrifice the apostolic action of the LMSC and the Sons of Divine Providence,the two congregations founded by Saint Luigi Orione.

The congregation is present in Italy, Spain, the Philippines, Kenya, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

The  three sisters are currently in Chile

They attend computer classes, 

so that they may be able to bring before the Blessed Sacrament

the numerous petitions

they receive from many faithful

through their Facebook account,

where they offer to pray for each intention they receive.

One of the above Sisters  had an accident when she was a child,

which left her with a severe vision problems,

which gradually increased

and she became completely
blind when she was 30.

She  thanks God for what had happened,  because,  this  abled her to enter the congregation.

Her blindness has helped her to serve Jesus by dedicating her life for the salvation of souls.

The sisters  present to the Lord the poverty, sufferings, and sorrows of humanity every day in their  prayer and adoration.

The sisters dedicate each day of the week for a special intention:

Mondays for the sick,

Tuesday for young people,

Wednesdays for peace,

Thursdays for vocations,

Fridays for the elderly,

Saturdays for children,

and

Sundays for families.

We can serve God with whatever God has given us, even it be blindness, as in the case of the Sacramentine Sisters.

நம்மைக் கேட்டா நம்மைப் பெற்றெடுத்தாள்?

நம்மைக் கேட்டா நமக்குப் பாலூட்டினாள், பாராட்டினாள், சீராட்டினாள், தாலாட்டினாள்?

நம்மைக் கேட்டா நமக்கு வேண்டியவற்றைத் தந்து நம்மை வளர்த்து விட்டாள்?

நம்மைக் கேட்டா நம்மை விதவிதமான உடைகளால்
உடுத்துவிக்கிறாள்?

தாயின் இந்த செயல்களுக்கெல்லாம் என்ன காரணம்?

அன்பு!

அன்பு ஒன்றுதான் காரணம்.

இவ்வுலகத்தாய் தன் குழந்தையை அது கேளாமலே தன் அன்பின் காரணமாக அதற்கு வேடியவற்றையெல்லாம் செய்து கவனித்துக்கொள்ளும்போது, அளவு கடந்த அன்பு கொண்ட நமது தெய்வீகத் தந்தை நம்மை எந்த அளவுக்குக் கவனித்துக் கொள்வார்?

நமக்கு நமது உடலையும்,  ஆன்மாவையும்,  உள்ளத்தையும், உணர்வுகளையும், அறிவையும்,  ஆற்றலையும் தந்த இறைவனுக்கு, அவற்றின் செயல்பாட்டிற்கு என்னவெல்லாம் வேண்டுமென்றும் தெரியும்.

வானத்துப் பறவைகட்கும்,  வயல்வெளிச் செடிகட்கும் வேண்டியதைக் கொடுத்துக் காப்பாற்றும் இறைவன் தன் சாயலாகப் படைத்த தன் மக்களைக் காப்பாற்ற மாட்டாரா?

கட்டாயம் காப்பாற்றுவார்.

நாம் சொல்லியா இறைமகன் மனுவுரு எடுத்து,  சிலுவையில் உயிர்நீத்து நமது பாவங்களுக்குப் பரிகாரம் செய்தார்?

வானத்துப் பறவைகட்கும்,  வயல்வெளிச் செடிகட்கும் கடவுள் யாரென்று தெரியாது.

நமக்குத் தெரியும்.

நாம் கேளாமல்தான் கடவுள் நம்மைப் படைத்தார்.

நாம் கேளாமல்தான் நம்மைக் காப்பாற்றுகிறார்.

நாம் கேளாமல்தான் நமக்காக உயிர் நீத்தார்.

இவ்வளையும் செய்த இறைவனுக்கு நாம் என்ன செய்கிறோம்?

நம்மால்  என்ன செய்ய இயலும்?

இறைவன் நிறைவானவர்.

அளவு கடந்த இறைவனுக்கு அளவு உள்ள நம்மால்
என்ன செய்ய இயலும்?

சர்வ உலகுக்கும் சொந்தக்காரரான இறைவனுக்கு சொந்தமாக ஒன்றுமே இல்லாத நம்மால்
என்ன செய்ய இயலும்?

சர்வ வல்லவரான இறைவனுக்கு பலமே இல்லாத நம்மால் என்ன செய்ய இயலும்?

ஒன்று மட்டும் முடியும் - அதுவும் அவரது அருள் இருந்தால் மட்டும் முடியும்.

நம்மை நேசிக்கும் இறைவனைப் பதிலுக்கு நேசிக்க முடியும்- அவரது அருளுடன்.

அவர் நமக்கு அருளிய விசுவாசக் கண்ணினால் அவரை நோக்கி, அவரது அன்பினைப் பற்றி தியானித்து, அவர் நமக்குச் செய்த, செய்துகொண்டிருக்கும்,  செய்ய விருக்கும் நன்மைகட்கு நன்றி கூற நம்மால் இயலும்.

இறைவனது அன்பினில் மயங்கி, நம்மை மறந்து, அவருக்கு அடி பணிந்து,   அவரோடு இணைந்திருக்க நம்மால் முடியும், அவரது அருளிருந்தால்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருளுக்குப் பஞ்சமில்லை.

இடைவிடாமல் நம் மேல் பொழியப்படும் அருளில் நனைந்து, அதன் பயனை அனுபவிக்க வேண்டியது நாம்தான்.

ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் இறைவனின் அன்பைப் பற்றி தியானிப்போம்.

ஒன்றுமில்லாமையிலிருந்து நமக்கு உருக்கொடுத்த உன்னத கடவுளின் அன்போடு ஒன்றிப்போம்.

மலரின் தேனில் மயங்கிக் கிடக்கும் வண்டினைப்போல் இறையன்பில் மயங்குவோம்.

இத்தியான நிலையின்போது இவ்வுலகின் ஆரவாரம் நம் கண்ணில் படாது, ஏன் நாமே படமாட்டோம்.

இறைவன் மட்டுமே நம் கருத்தை நிறைத்திருப்பார்.

இத்தியானத்துக்கு மொழி தேவையில்லை.

இறையன்பின் ஈடுபடுவோரை பாவம் அணுகாது,  ஏனெனில் பாவம் ஆரம்பிப்பதே மனதில்தான்.

மனம் நிறைய இறைவன் இருக்கும்போது, ஐயோ பாவம்!  பாவம் என்ன செய்யும்!

வந்த தடம் தெரியாமல் ஓடிவிடும்!

தினமும் இறைவனைத் தியானிப்போம், இறையன்பில் வளர்வோம்.

நாம் என்ன செய்தாலும் இறைவனின் அதிமிக மகிமைக்காகவே செய்ய வேண்டும்.

இந்த விதியைப் பின்பற்றினால் நாம் பாவம் செய்ய மாட்டோம்.

கடவுளுடைய மகிமைக்காக பாவம் செய்ய முடியுமா?

எனக்கு ஒரு பையனைத் தெரியும்.

அவனுக்கு யார் காசு கொடுத்தாலும் அவனது அம்மாவிடம்  கொடுத்துவிடுவான்.

ஒரு நாள் அவனிடம் கேட்டேன்,  "ஏண்டா கிடைத்த காசைச் செலவழிக்காமல் அம்மாவிடம் கொடுக்கிறாய்?" என்று.

அவன் சொன்னான்,  "அம்மாவிடம் ஒரு ரூபாய்  கொடுத்தால் பத்து ரூபாயாகத் தருவாங்க, நான் கேட்கும்போது! "

நாம் கடவுளுக்காகச் செய்வதும் இது மாதிரிதான்.

கடவுள் நிறைவானவர்.

மகிமையிலும் நிறைவானவர்.  He is perfect in His glory also.

மனிதன் படைக்கப்படுவதற்கு முன்பே நித்திய காலமும் அவர் நிறைவானவர்தான்.

நிறைவை அதிக நிறைவாக்க முடியாது.
Perfection cannot be made more perfect.

இறைவனுடைய மகிமையோடு அதிக மகிமை சேர்க்க முடியாது.

நாம் இறைவனது மகிமைக்காக எதையாவது செய்யும்போது இறைவன் அதை நமக்குப் பரிசாக விண்ணகத்தில் சேர்த்து வைக்கிறார்.

நாம் இறைவனுக்காக செய்யும் எல்லா நல்ல காரியங்களும் பயன்படப்போவது நமக்குதான்.

நாம் வாழ இறைவன் வேண்டும், இறைவன் சுயமாக வாழ்கிறார், நம்மால் அல்ல.

இறைவனுக்காக வாழ்வோம், விண்ணில் பயன் பெறுவோம்.

Jesus said these words when He was giving His message about His second coming.

The good ones will inherit Heaven and the bad ones hell.

What does Jesus mean when he says that one person will be taken and another left?

We will be  judged   on on the basis of  how we have  responded to his gracious mercy and invitation to accept his Son as Lord and Ruler over all.

Jesus has  given us personal freedom to accept or reject Him as Lord and Saviour.

We are free to choose the eternal kingdom of God or that of everlasting darkness.

No one can pass off their personal responsibility to someone else - no matter how close their relationship may be in this present life.

Just because two persons are  together it does not mean that both of them will go to Heaven.

The saved will be taken,  the other left.

Suppose husband and wife are living together for many years.

Each will be responsible for his or her salvation. 

One cannot guarantee his salvation just by entering a religious order.

He must work out his own salvation by cooperating with God's grace.

Jesus freely offers each one of us the grace, strength, and help we need to turn to him to receive pardon for our sins.

The head of our government rules over India as a whole, without knowing us individually.

But, God  takes care of us individually.

His love for every individual is so great that even if there is only one sinner in the world He would undergo all the sufferings that He underwent for the whole human race, for that one sinner.

True,  Jesus second coming will be for our final judgment.

But that judgment must be viewed through the mirror of His unlimited love.

The saved will be rewarded with everlasting union with God.

But the sinners rejected God using their freedom of choice.

So by themselves they will
enter into everlasting loss of God.

The saved will be rewarded with everlasting bliss.

The sinners will enter into everlasting suffering.

The Pharisees asked Jesus  when the kingdom of God was coming.

He answered them, "behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you."

Jesus referred to Himself as the Kingdom of God.

The Pharisees did not believe that He was the expected Messiah.

Jesus also refers to His second coming.

Jesus compares His coming to that of a lightning.

Why did Jesus associate lightning with His "Day"?

In the arid climate of Palestine, lighting would appear unexpectedly.

So will be the  coming  Jesus.

The final examination dates are announced months before the exam so that the students may prepare themselves  well for it.

But some students spend most of the time in useless occupations and start preparing for the exam just a few days before it.

If they are  told that the exam will begin at anytime without pre-announcement, they will prepare for the exam without wasting their time.

Jesus says that His coming would be at anytime like that of a lightning .

It is a warning to us that we must always be ready to meet Him.

If we have to do some cleaning work in our soul let us do it immediately,  because the next moment may not be ours.

If we want to earn more reward in Heaven by doing some good work let us do it today because tomorrow may not come.

Let us lead every day our life as though it is our last day.

"அது எனக்கும் தெரியும். சரி. நான் கேட்க வந்தது வேறு. நேராகவே கேட்கிறேன். மாறுவது சரியா, தவறா? "

"அதற்கு முன் என் கேள்விக்கு பதில் சொல்லு. தூங்குவது சரியா, தவறா?"

"அது இயற்கையின் நியதி. தூங்குவது சரிதான்."

"பின் ஏன் வகுப்பில் தூங்குகிறவனை ஆசிரியர் கண்டிக்ககிறார்? "

"தூங்குவது சரியா, தவறான்னு கேட்டிருக்கக்கூடாது. வகுப்பில் தூங்குவது சரியா, தவறான்னு கேட்டிருக்கணும்."

திவ்ய நற்கருணை முன்பு ,   முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு (Genuflect) வணங்கும் பழக்கம் முன்பு இருந்தது.

இப்போது அது தலை வணங்கும் பழக்கமாக மாறிவிட்டதே.

திவ்யநற்கருணையில் அன்றிருந்த அதே இயேசுதானே இன்றும் இருக்கிறார்.

சர்வ வல்லப கடவுள் முன்பு   முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு    வணங்குவதை விட தலை குனிந்து வணங்குவது மேலான வணக்கமா?"

"அதை மாற்றியவர்ட்கு அப்படித்தான் தோன்றியிருக்க வேண்டும்.

முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு   வணங்க வேண்டாம் என்று யாரும் கூறவில்லை."

"எனக்குக் கொஞ்சம் சங்டமாகத்தான் இருக்கு.

பாடுபட்ட சுரூபத்துக்கும்
தலை வணங்குகிறோம்,

திவ்ய நற்கருணைக்கும் தலை வணங்குகிறோம்.

"திவ்ய நற்கருணை நமது ஆன்மீக உணவு, உயிருள்ள உணவு.

ஒரு தாய் தன் குழந்தைக்கு உணவு ஊட்டுவதுபோல குருவானவர் அவ்வுணவை நமக்கு ஊட்டினார்- அது ஒரு காலம்.

இப்போது,  ..."

"நாம் வளர்ந்துவிட்டோம்போலிருக்கு, கையில் தருகிறார்.

குழந்தையாகவே இருந்திருக்கலாம்!"

"ஒரு கோவிலில் பீடத்தில் வார்த்தைக்குக் கொடுத்திருக்கும் இடத்தை வார்த்தையானவருக்குக்  கொடுக்கவில்லை."

" ஆமாம். பீடத்தின் மத்திய இடத்தை வார்த்தைக்குக் கொடுத்துவிட்டு,  வார்த்தையானவருக்கு ஒரு ஓரமான இடத்தைக் கொடுப்பது Fashion ஆகிவிட்டது!

இயேசுவுக்கு நமது உள்ளத்தில் இடம் கொடுப்போம்."

One day during catechism class I was explaining the article of Faith that Jesus was fully God and fully man.

I was explaining how as a man like us He has experienced

hunger,(Mark. 11:12).

thirst,(John. 19:28)

tiredness,(John. 4:6)

weeping,(John.11:35)

gladness (Luke. 10:21)

anger,(Matthew 21:12)

birth

and

death.

Towards the end of the  class one boy stood up and asked, "Has Jesus ever laughed?  Laughter too is one of traits of a human being."

I didn't expect this question.

During all my Bible readings I have never come across Jesus laughing.

Laughter is an external audible expression of internal joy.

The Gospels tell us that Jesus wept, but never that he laughed.

If we remember one thing about why the Gospels were written, such a question will never arise in our mind.

The Gospels were not written to give us the life history of Jesus.

His  early life up to 30 was given just two verses:

" but he went down with them on their journey to Nazareth, and lived there in subjection to them, while his mother kept in her heart the memory of all this. 52 And so Jesus advanced in wisdom with the years, and in favour both with God and with men."            (Luke. 2:51,52)

The Gospels were written only to give us the  salvation message of Jesus.

Each and every  verse has a message to give.

Jesus asked his followers to 'be glad and light-hearted,' when they were persecuted for being His followers.
(Matthew. 5:12)

As He advised His followers  to be glad  even during persecution, 

we can infer that Jesus was always happy,  even during His passions.

Though we don't find the word laughter  there is no hint to prevent us from thinking that He laughed.

As He was always happy we can believe that Jesus would have laughed, though it has not been  recorded by the Gospel writers.

தனது பண்புகளளிலே அளவு கடந்தவர்.

அதேசமயம் நமது உள்ளத்தில் முழுமையாக உள்ளவர்.

கடந்தவர்,  உள்ளத்தில் உள்ளவர்.

கட+உள்= கடவுள்.

கடவுள் காலங்களைக் கடந்தவர்,   இவரது நித்தியத்தை நமது கால அளவைகளால் அளக்க முடியாது.

நமது காலம் நாம் வாழும் Universe படைக்கப்பட்டபோது தொடங்கியது,  அது அழிக்கப்படும்போது முடிந்துவிடும்.

கடவுள் நித்தியர்,  துவக்கமும் முடிவும் இல்லாதவர்.

என்றும் வாழ்பவர்.

கடவுள் நமது கற்பனைகளுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவர்.

நம்மைப் போன்ற ஜடப் பொருட்களைத்தான் நம்மால் கற்பனை பண்ண முடியும்.

கடவுள்  ஆவி.

கடவுள் நமது சொற்களைக் கடந்தவர்.

நமது சொற்களால்  கடவுளைப் பற்றி சிந்திக்க, பேச முயற்சி செய்யலாம்.

ஆனால் எந்த மனித மொழியாலும் கடவுளைப்பற்றி முழுமையாக விபரிக்க முடியாது.

நமது மொழியைக் கொண்டுதான் அவரைப்பற்றி பேச இயலும், வேறு   வழியில்லை.

ஆனால் சரியாகப் புரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும்.

உதாரணத்துக்கு : இறைவனைத் தந்தை என்று அழைக்கிறோம்.

இலக்கணப்படி,  தந்தை ஆண்பால்.

ஆனால் இறைவன் ஆவி.

ஆவி ஆணாகவோ பெண்ணாகவோ இருக்க முடியாது.

இவ்வுலகில் நம்மைப் பெற்றவர்கள் நம் தந்தையும்,  தாயும்.

உலக நியதிப்படி தந்தையை குடும்பத் தலைவராக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

ஆகவே நாம் இவ்வுலகிற்குள் வரக் காரணமாக இருந்தவரும்,  நம் தலைவருமான கடவுளைத் தந்தை என்று அழைக்கிறோம்.

அவரை அம்மா என்று அழைத்தாலும் அன்புடன் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார்.

ஆனால் இயேசு மனித சுபாவத்தில் உண்மையாகவே ஆண்மகன். தேவ சுபாவத்தில் ஆவி.

கடவுள் தன் பண்புகளில் அளவு கடந்தவர்.

அளவற்ற அன்புள்ளவர்.

அளவற்ற இரக்கமுள்ளவர்.

அளவற்ற நீதியுள்ளவர்.

அளவற்ற ஞானமுள்ளவர்.

அளவற்ற வல்லமையுள்ளவர்.

நம்மை அளவற்ற அன்புடன் நேசிக்ககிறார்.

இயேசு தன் தாயை எந்த அளவு நேசித்தாரோ அதே அளவு நம்மையும் நேசிக்கிறார்.

அளவு கடந்த அன்புள்ள கடவுள் நமது அன்புக்காக நமது இதயத்தில் வாழ்கிறார்.

கடவுளும் நாமும் அன்பில் இணைந்து வாழ வேண்டும்.

அவ்விணைப்பு மறு உலகிலும் தொடரவேண்டும்.

திருவனந்தபுரம் எக்ஸ்ப்ரஸ் தன் முழு வேகத்தில் சென்னையை நோக்கி ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்தது.

முதல் வகுப்பு பெட்டியில் மூன்று பைத்தியங்கள் பிரயாணம் செய்துகொண்டிருந்தன.

நடுப்பைத்தியம் வலது பக்க பைத்தியத்தைப் பார்த்து, 

"நீ எங்கே போய்க்கொண்டீருக்கிறாய்? "

"சென்னைக்கு."

இடது பக்க பைத்தியத்தைப் பார்த்து, 

"நீ எங்கே போய்க்கொண்டீருக்கிறாய்?"

"திருவனந்தபுரத்துக்கு. "

நடுப்பைத்தியத்துக்கு ஒரே ஆச்சரியம்.

என்னே   இந்தியாவின் தொழில் நுட்ப சாதனை!        

ஒரே  நேரத்தில் எதிர்எதிர் திசைகளில் செல்லும் இரண்டு பயணிகள் ஒரே இரயிலில் செல்லும் அளவுக்கு இந்தியதொழில் நுட்பம் வளர்துள்ளதது!

வடக்கே போவோரும், தெற்கே  போவோரும் ஒரே இரலில்!

இது பைத்தியங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே சாத்தியம்.

எப்படி எதிர்த்திசைகளில் செல்பவர்கள் ஒரே இரயிலில் பயணிக்க முடியாதோ,  அப்படியே எதிர்எதிர் கொள்கைகளுள்ள இரண்டு தலைவர்களுக்கு ஒருவன் ஊழியனாக இருக்க முடியாது.

நாம் ஒரே நேரத்தில் கடவுளுக்கும் செல்வத்துக்கும் ஊழியம் செய்ய முடியாது.

கடவுள் நம்மை நித்திய வாழ்வுக்கு அழைக்கிறார்.

உலகமும் அதன் செல்வமும் நமது இவ்வுலக வாழ்வோடு முடிந்துவிடக் கூடியவை.

கடவுள் பேரின்ப வாழ்வுக்கு அழைக்கிறார்.

செல்வத்தால் சிற்றின்பத்தை மட்டுமே தர இயலும்.

கடவுள் படைத்தவர்.

செல்வம் படைக்கப்பட்ட பொருள்.

ஒருவன் நித்திய வாழ்வு தரும் சர்வ வல்லப கடவுளுக்கும் , அநித்திய அழியும் பொருளுக்கும் ஊழியம் செய்ய மூமுடியுமா?

இறைவன் நம்மைப் படைக்குமுன் நாம் பயன்படுத்துவதற்காக உலகையும் அதன் செல்வங்களையும் படைத்தார்.

நம்மைத் தனக்காகப் படைத்தார்.

நாம் செல்வத்தைப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும், செல்வம் நம்மைப் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது.

அதாவது நாம் செல்வத்தின் ஊழியனாக மாறி விடக்கெடாது.

நாம் இறைவனின் ஊழியர்கள்.

இறைவனுக்காக நாம் செய்யும் ஊழியத்திற்காக செல்வத்தைப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்.

செல்வத்தைச் சம்பாதிப்பதற்காக இறைவனைப் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது.

இறைவனின் ஊழியனாக மாற இறைவன்மீது பற்று வைக்க வேண்ணடும்.

இறைன்மீது பற்றுள்ளவன் இறைவனுக்காக தன் வசமுள்ள செல்வத்தை,  ஏன், தன்னையே தியாகம் செய்வான்.

இறைவன் மீது உண்மையான பற்று உள்ளவனுக்கு செல்வத்தின் பற்று இருக்காது.

செல்வத்தின்மீது பற்று உள்ளவனுக்கு இறைவன்மீது பற்று இருக்காது.

செல்வத்தின்மீது பற்று உள்ளவன் அதை ஈட்டுவதற்காக இறைவனது கட்டளைகளை மீறத் தயங்கமாட்டான்.

இறைவன் மீது உண்மையான பற்றுள்ளவன் அவருக்காக தன்  செல்வத்தை முழுதும் இழக்கத் தயங்கமாட்டான்.

இறைப்பணிக்காக தன் உற்றார் உறவினரையும் விட்டுப் போக தயங்க மாட்டான்.

செல்வத்தின்மீது பற்று இருக்கக்கூடாது என்றால் பணம் சம்பாதிக்கக்கூடாதா? 

செல்வம் இறைவனின் படைப்பு.

அது இல்லாமல் உலகில் வாழ முடியாது.

நாம் வாழ்வதற்காக செல்வத்தை ஈட்ட வேண்டும்,

ஈட்டடிய செல்வத்தை இறைப்பணிக்காக யன்படுத்த வேண்டும்.

செல்வத்தை ஈட்டுவதற்காக மட்டும் வாழக்கூடாது.

செல்வத்துக்காக வாழ்பவர்கள் அதன் அடிமைகள்.

"இதோ ஆண்டவரின் அடிமை" என்ற நம் அன்னையின் கூற்றுப்படி நாம் கடவுளின் அடிமைகளாக வாழ வேண்டும்.

"I was arrested yesterday"

"Arrested? For what?"

"For accepting bribery to do my my duty. "

"But you are at home."

" I was released within minutes."

"How? "

"By bribing the arrester! "

"But bribing is as criminal as being bribed."

"I know. But the arrester was arrested in the morning today!"

"What do you mean? "

"I mean what I say.''

"But why?"

"For paying his electric bill with the money I gave! "

"But why in the world was that?"

"I was bribed with valid currency,  but he with fake ones! "

"You are a double criminal! "

"Not double,  full "

Criminal brains work this way.

They are very shrewd!

Our Lord has said,  "The sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light."

'Sons of this world' are those who don't care for the next world. They live as though this world is their permanent abode.

They don't worry about sin or virtue in their thought, word and action.

They live only to live,  so they are ready to sacrifice anybody or anything for their comfortable life.

They are shrewd enough to turn  any situation to their better use, whether it be morally  good or bad.

According to their dictionary 'whatever is useful is good '.

'Sons of light' are the ones who live in this world for the next world.

They know that this world is not their permanent abode.

Life in this world is only a journey to the next world, Heaven.

Such ones are the followers of Jesus,  who is the light to their path.

Shrewdness is a gift given by God  to the human race.

Shrewdness is one's  ability  to understand and judge a situation quickly and use it to one's advantage.

Shrewdness is a common gift.

According to Jesus the 'sons of the world ' use it more than the 'sons of light'.

The steward in Jesus' parable misuses his shrewdness to change  the rich man's domestic records to be of help to him in future.

Jesus says that His followers are not so shrewd as the sons of the world.

He expects us to be more shrewd than the sons of the world in spiritual matters.

We have been given 24 hours a day.

How long should  we spend for God everyday?

Jesus wants us to spend all the 24 hours for Him.

Is it possible?

Quite possible.

We can allot

2 hours for prayer

8 hours for work,

8 hours for sleep,

6 hours for our dear ones.

Most important,  we must be shrewd enough to offer the whole day to God, thus making the whole day a prayer.

By our offering our work, sleep and the time spent with our dear ones will become a prayer.

If we are shrewd,  we can use even material things for our spiritual advantage. 

Money can be spiritualised by
1.offering it for the welfare our Holy Mother the Church.

2. Offering it as help to the poor and needy.

3. arranging for Masses to be said for the dead.

Whenever we get an opportunity we must be shrewd enough to make use of it for service of God.

We need not go in search of opportunities,  they will cross our way themselves at unexpected times.

One day I had gone to a theater to see a film.

Just as I was about to enter the theater a pathetic voice came from behind.

I turned back.

A small boy was standing there stretching his hands with his eyes, requesting something, fixed at mine.

Without a second thought I put the ticket money into his hands and left the theater with the satisfaction of having helped somebody.

Such unexpected opportunities will present themselves at unexpected moments to be used for our spiritual advantage.

One day I got into a crowded bus with no seat to sit down.

I kept standing for a few minutes.

One middle aged man called me 'sir' from behind.

I recognized him as my old student and smiled at him.

"Sir, please come here and sit down."

He stood up and gave me his seat to sit down.

I sat down with a 'thanks'.

"I thank you for having given me an opportunity to help my teacher," he said.

Small drops of water make a mighty ocean.

Small acts of love and kindness make a 'dear-God spiritual life.'

Self-exaltation     and                               God-exaltation.

Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel.”(Lk 2:34)

These are the predictive words of Simeon uttered when Child Jesus was presented in the Temple.

Jesus was born to save the whole human race from sin.

Then how can He cause the 'fall' of many?

Jesus was born to preach His Gospel to the people according to which they would be expected to live.

Once the Gospel is made known to the people they will fall into two categories, those who live according to the Gospel and those who don't.

The former 'rise' and the latter 'fall'.

Jesus sets before the people a principle according to which they should live.

"The man who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted." (Matthew.23:12)

Jesus wants us to be humble.

Spiritually speaking, one who humbles himself in this world will be exalted in the next world.

One who exalts himself in this world will be humbled in next world.

When we humble ourselves we exalt God, because we accept that whatever is good in us belongs to Him.

If we exalt God in this world, God will exalt us in the next world.

When we exalt ourselves in this world we think that we are great and renounce the real Greatness, God.

Thereby we declare ourselves unfit to have a share in the eternal bliss.

Let us think for a while:

Are we going to exalt ourselves and risk divine humiliation,

or

humble ourselves so that God can exalt us?

Jesus  demands from us a choice between self-exaltation and God-exaltation

There are present in the Church founded by Jesus many invitations to the indispensable virtue of humility.

The very nature of the Church herself calls us to humble ourselves.

Our Holy Mother the Catholic Church is a Divine institution.

But, we, its members are sinners; we must accept this fact.

Jesus Himself declared that He came to this world in search of sinners.

" I have come to call sinners to repentance" ( Luke.5:32)

"That is what the Son of Man has come for, to search out and to save what was lost." ( Luke.19:10)

Two of the seven Sacraments, baptism and confession, are meant for forgiveness of sins.

Unless a patient accepts that he is a patient he cannot be treated.

"God, be merciful to me; I am a sinner." ( Luke. 18:13)- This is how Our Lord wants us to pray.

We have to be humble enough to accept this fact.

How can we be forgiven unless we accept our sins?

The official prayer of the Church, Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, begins with an act of contrition for our sins.

When compared with the enormous number of Christians, only a few have been chosen as our spiritual leaders.

Though leaders they have been chosen from amongst us.

We must be humble enough to accept them as our 'Spiritual Fathers' who represent Jesus Himself.

We need the virtue of humility to confess our sins to them.

One parent said:

"Till yesterday he was my son, from today he is my Father. I am happy that my son has become the representative of Jesus Himself."

He is humble enough to accept his son as his Father, who has the power to forgive his sins.

The proud  focus only
on the weakness and failures of our leaders,

whereas

the humble see only Jesus in them.

When the Priest in the confessional says,  "Your sins are forgiven,  go in peace ", it is Jesus who speaks through the mouth of the priest.

We need humility to accept this.

If the number of confessions is decreasing,  it does not mean sins are decreasing, it only means our humility is fading.

If we feel that the words and conduct of the leaders don't tally,  we should remember Our Lord's words, "Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example."

The  humble person is ready  to ask for the prayers of others and to depend on their help.

If we are humble we will request our Saints to pray for us.

The more humble we are, the  more powerful will be our prayers.

One boy seemed to be a bit dull.

I asked him, "Any trouble?"

He said that he was afraid of the upcoming exam.

That fear didn't seem reasonable to me because the exam was not going to do any harm to him.

If he was well prepared why should he fear the exam?

Sometimes we fear unnecessarily, imagining things that will never cross our way.

"Fear not Abram! I am your shield” (Gen 15:1).

God says these words to us also.

Even a new born baby is not afraid of anything when it is in the hands of its mother.

Why should we fear anything when we are in the hands of Almighty God.

There may be moments in our life when we  will have to stand up and fight and also moments when we will have to flee.

In both the moments we should not fear.

Suppose we are tempted to leave our parents to their fate and go our way to escape from financial burden, we must fight against such a temptation and get ourselves ready to meet any problem that may arise while keeping them with us.

We need not fear the upcoming problems because God is with us to solve them.

But when we are tempted against the sixth and the ninth commandment we must take to flight without waiting for a fraction of a second.

Here no fight, but escape from the situation.

This is not out of fear but Prudence.

We must avoid situations that may lead us to sin.

Reason dictates that we should flee the evils that we cannot withstand.

Suppose our life is threatened by the enemies of the Church,
what should we do?

We must remember the words of our Lord Jesus:
 
"And there is no need to fear those who kill the body, but have no means of killing the soul; fear him more, who has the power to ruin body and soul in hell.” (Matt 10:28).

We need not be afraid of those who can take away our life,  because they cannot take away our soul.

Our soul is under the protection of its Creator and the moment it leaves our body it will be in His hands.

So we need not be afraid of those who can only separate our soul from our body.

We should fear God whom we will have to lose for ever in case we obey His enemies for fear of death.

The fear for God is only filial fear, born of love, that is, fear of losing our loving Father by committing sin.

We should free ourselves from the silly fears for things that can only harm the body, not our soul.

For instance illness can do some harm only to our body.

So we need not fear when we happen to suffer from some physical trouble.

We can turn it into a blessing by offering it to God.

To give another instance, a student, waiting for the results for the already written exam, may have some fears as to the nature of the results.

Pass or fail are the only possibilities.

We won't have any fear if we are ready to accept any possibility as God's will.

How is God everywhere?

God is omnipresent.

God is everywhere

"Where can I go from your spirit?

From your presence, where can I flee?

If I ascend to the heavens, you are there;

if I lie down in Sheol, there you are.

If I take the wings of dawn
and dwell beyond the sea."(Psalm.139:7-9)

God is everywhere by His attributes.

He is absolutely transcendent.

That is, He is  beyond  the range of normal or physical human experience.

God is beyond time and space.

Our time is chronological and can be measured in terms of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years.

But God is beyond our time and is eternal.

Eternity cannot be measured, it has no beginning and no end.

God is a Spirit and cannot occupy space and hence He is beyond space.

Only matter can occupy space; God created matter, but He is a spirit, not matter.

Time and space are concepts, applicable only to created things, not to their Creator.

He is permanently pervading and sustaining the universe.

God does not have His attributes, He is His attributes.

He does not have justice and mercy, as if these were things He could acquire or lose.

He is justice.

He is mercy.

He is greatness.

We have love, but, God does not have love,

He is love.

He is His thoughts.

Actually God does not think in the way we do.

He does not ruminate.

As His thought is complete we refer it to as the Word.

God is His Word

The Word is God ( John 1:1 ).

He is  goodness.

He is omnipotence.

He is omniscient.

Jesus did not say, "I will show you the way.''

He said,

"I am the way;

I am truth

and

life; "

He is the light of the world.

As He is everywhere, all things are in Him as He is in them.

God’s whole being is everywhere.

We witness Jesus' wholeness in Eucharist.

Each and every consecrated Host is Jesus' whole being.

We can break the Host into pieces, but we cannot break Jesus.

Jesus is fully present in each and every piece of the Host.

In the same way, God is wholly present everywhere by His attributes

truth,

goodness,

justice

mercy,

wisdom,

Power,

and

love.

உண்மையான மனித நேயம்.

உண்மையான  மனித நேயம்.

நண்பகல் 12 மணி.

எதிர் எதிர்த் திசையில் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்த நாற்சக்கர வாகனம் ஒன்றும், இருசக்கர வாகனம் ஒன்றும் ஒன்றோடொன்று மோதிக்கொண்டன.

இருசக்கர வாகனத்தைத் தள்ளிப்போட்டு விட்டு   நாற்சக்கர வாகனம் ஓடிப்போய்விட்டது.

இருசக்கர வாகனம் தான்மட்டும் விழவில்லை; தன்னை ஓட்டி வந்தவனோடு சேர்ந்தே விழுந்தது.

விழுந்தவன் தன் இரத்தத்தையே குளமாக்கி அதில் மிதந்து கொண்டிருந்தான்.

அவனைக் கடந்து நடந்து சென்றவர்களுள் பலர் ஆளுக்கொரு 'ஐயோ பாவத்தை' அவன்மீது போட்டுவிட்டு போய்க்கொண்டேயிருந்தார்கள்.

கடைசியில் வந்தவன் வெறும்
'ஐயோ பாவத்தோடு' நிற்காமல் அவனே நின்று, அவன் மீது இரங்கி, அவனைத் தூக்கி மருத்துவ மனைக்கு கொண்டுசென்று, தன் இரத்தத்தையே கொடுத்து வைத்தியம் செய்தான்.

வைத்திய மனையில் அவரைச் சந்தித்த ஒருவர்:

"நல்ல காரியம் செய்தீர்கள். இவர் உங்களுக்கு உறவினரா?"

"ஆம்."

"என்ன உறவு?"

"மனிதன். நான் ஒரு மனிதன், அவரும் ஒரு மனிதன். உதவி செய்ய என்னைத் தூண்டியது மனித நேயம்."

"வேறு உறவு ஏதும் இல்லை?"

"நீ என்ன பதிலை எதிர்பார்க்கிறீர்கள்?"

"சரி. கொஞ்சம் மாற்றிக் கேட்கிறேன். உங்கள் வீட்டில் உங்கள் தம்பியோடு என்ன உறவு?"

"கேள்வி வேடிக்கையாகயில்லை? தம்பி உறவு."

"அதைவிட ஆழமாக."

"உடன் பிறந்த உறவு."

"உடன் பிறந்த உறவுக்கும், மனித உறவுக்கும் என்ன வேறுபாடு? ''

"தம்பி,  கேள்வி மேல் கேள்வி கேட்பதை விட்டு விட்டு சொல்ல வந்ததைச் சொல்லுங்கள்."

"என்னைத் தம்பி என்றீர்களே, எப்படி? "

"நானும் மனிதன், நீங்களும் மனிதன்."

"அதாவது எல்லா மனிதர்களும் ஒரே குடும்பம். சரியா?"

"சரி, அதுக்கு என்ன இப்போ?"

"நாம் எல்லோரும் ஒரே குடும்பம்னா நாம் எல்லோரும் ஒரே அப்பா, அம்மாவின் வாரிசுகளாகத்தானே இருக்கணும்."

"அதுக்கு என்ன இப்போ?"

"நமம முதல் பெற்றோர் எப்படி வந்தாங்க?"

"ஹலோ! போதும்.  நீங்க எங்க வரீங்கென்னு புரியுது."

இப்படித்தான் அநேகரருக்கு உண்மை பக்கம் வர பயமாயிருக்கு.

மனிதநேயம் பற்றி  பேசுபவர்கள் அதற்கு ஆதாரமான இறை நேயத்தை மறந்து விடக்கூடாது. 

உண்மையில் இறை நேயம் இல்லாத இடத்தில் உண்மையான மனித நேயம் இருக்க முடியாது.

நமது வாழ்வுக்கு ஆதாரமான இறைவனை நேசிக்க வேண்டும்.

இறைவன் நமது தந்தை.

மனிதர் நமது தந்தையால் படைக்கப்பட்டதால் நமது சகோதரர்கள்.

அவர்கள்மீது நாம் கொண்டுள்ள நேயம் வெறும் மனித நேயமல்ல, சகோதர பாசம்.

வெறும் மனித நேயத்தைவிட சகோதர பாசம் மேலானது.

ஏனெனில் அது நம் மீது அளவற்ற பாசம் கொண்ட இறைவனின் பாசத்தோடு கலந்தது. 

இறைவனுக்காக மற்றவர்களை நேசிக்கும்போது இறைவனையே நேசிக்கிறோம்.

இறையன்பும் பிறர் அன்பும் இணையும்போதுதான் அன்பு முழுமை பெறுகிறது.

இந்த முழுமையான
அன்பின் அடிப்படையில் நாம் செய்யும் பிறரன்புப் பணிகளே இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்றவை.

இறையன்பு இணையாத மனிதநேயப்பணிகள் இறைவன் முன் பயனற்றவை.

இறைவனை நேசிப்போம்.

அவர் பெயரார் பிறர் பணி செய்வோம்.
